Lead UX Designer (AI Focus)
About The Role
We’re looking for a Lead UX Designer who raises the quality bar across the Design function — not just in their own work. This is a hands-on individual contributor role: you map business objectives to design outcomes, set a clear standard, and bring the team along with you.
You’ll drive the visual language across the AppSignal portfolio, back your decisions with research, and use AI tooling to increase your own and the team’s output velocity. This role blends hands-on craft, design systems, cross-team collaboration, and AI-enabled workflows.
We’re looking for somebody within two hours of the Central European Time (CET) timezone for this role.
What You'll Do
Produce shareable, testable artifacts that unblock front-end development. See them through to completion — the last 10% matters.
Own the research behind your design decisions. Pull in the UX researcher where relevant, and use usability sessions, telemetry (PostHog), and competitive benchmarking to justify your rationale.
Use AppSignal regularly as a developer would. Ground your decisions in how the product is actually used.
Drive the visual language and interaction patterns across the AppSignal product portfolio. Document your vision — don't just talk about it.
Lead cross-team discussions to concrete decisions. Stakeholders should leave aligned, not with more open questions.
Lead the Design System effort to reduce debt and improve cross-team collaboration. Ground it in consistent, first-principles design decisions that the whole team can build on.
Document your standards and share AI workflows so the team can learn from them.
Use AI across ideation, prototyping, research synthesis, and Design System work. Experiment with new tools and share what works.
Take an AI-first approach to specifying design: author design.md files and reusable skills that scale the design language across the team without you being in every conversation.
What You Bring
Technical curiosity. You read the docs, use developer tools, and stay genuinely interested in how the product works — not just how it looks.
Great collaboration. You work well across design, engineering, and product. You make the people around you better and bring them along with you.
Openness to AI. You experiment, share what works, and help the team move faster. You don’t wait for the tools to be perfect.
Strong design opinions, lightly held. You know what good looks like and you’ll advocate for it — but you listen, adapt, and leave room for better ideas.
